YANGBAN

As a part of the evolution of this highly acclaimed restaurant – Yangban, Better Tomorrow designed and fabricated a series of outdoor custom metal mesh screen panels to delineate an outdoor dining area and to provide privacy. “Drawn” in stainless steel wires in different thicknesses, each mesh panel features a single image, in series, in traditional Asian ink landscape painting style, and together the panels depict Seoraksan National Park, Seoul, Korea, paying homage to the husband-and-wife chefs of Yangban, the genre-defying Korean American culinary ‘conversation’.

The project is the result of a collaboration with Tomas Osinski who fabricated the outdoor tapestry at Eisenhower Memorial in Washington, D.C., designed by Frank Gehry. Mr. Osinski designed a proprietary fabrication system that utilizes a unique combination of novel computer programming, innovative automated equipment, and proprietary CNC fabrication technology.
